WERTHER : a young artist with a great culture, sensitive and passionate lover of nature. In addition to this, is a loner who lives in a society that hates: not like the bureaucracy, the distinctions between classes and having to appear in a "politically correct."
CARLOTA : represents the feminine ideal of romanticism. It is a beautiful, educated, spontaneous, natural and simple, who embodies the role of woman-mother, responsible and attentive to everything and everyone around her.
ALBERTO : Charlotte's future husband is the counterpoint to the figure of Werther, a man reasonable, moderate and thoughtful. Sometimes it shows lack of sensitivity and do not understand why certain things in the way of thinking and acting of Werther.

The narrator is the protagonist himself, who has in his letters about his feelings and what they cause. The first person to express intimacy, and with a tone very subjective, what matters is for him an emotional experience, this increases the feeling of authenticity and strengthens the credibility, giving it greater credibility and closer to the reader. As such, only has feelings and emotions, as opposed to an omniscient narrator who would know what they think all the characters, does not know what goes through the minds of other characters involved in the novel, although sometimes by gestures or reactions sensed something. Despite this at the end the narrator passes be the "editor" which tells the story in third person from the testimony of pieces of Werther's letters and stories of other characters. In this final part are left to show the feelings and the story is told in an objective manner with a predominance of action verbs.
